The 2^ND COMING

THE FACT OF HIS COMING

1 Cor. 11:26 - 'until he comes…'

Acts 1:10-11 would come in like manner as He had gone ---

Heb. 9:27-28 - "He shall appear a 2^nd time without sin unto salvation'

2 Thess. 1:7 - he shall be 'revealed from heaven with His mighty angels…"

1 Thess. 4:15-16 - "… with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God..

2 Pet. 3:3-4, 9-10, though some would scoff at the claim of His coming, it would occur 'as a thief in the night'.

1 John 3:2, "when He shall appear, we shall be like Him…"

A. WHEN WILL HE COME?

1. Matt. 24:??

a. Speaking of the destruction of Jerusalem,

b. 'Not one stone shall be left upon another'….vs. 2

c. This generation, vs. 34

d. When see the abomination of desolation.., vs. 15, cp. Lk. 21:20-22

e. Flee to the mountains, vv. 15-19… i.e., local problem

f. Pray… not in winter, sabbath, .. pregnant.. 19-20

2. Mtt. 24:1-34 shows various 'signs' -- all pertaining to the destruction of Jerusalem.

a. False teachers, vs. 5

b. Wars, rumors of wars, vs. 6

c. Famines, v. 7

d. Earthquakes, v. 7

e. Persecution, v. 9

f. Apostasy, v. 10

g. Gospel preached to all world, vs. 14 -- (cp. Col. 1:6, 23; Rom. 1:8; 10:15f)

3. YET -- NO MAN KNOWS…

a. No man knows - Mtt. 24:34-36, also vs. 37-42; Mark 13:32

b. as a thief in the night (not known) -- 2 Pet. 3:10, 1 Thess. 5:2

B. MANNER OF HIS COMING

1. Though the TIME is secret the coming will NOT be!

2. Acts 1:10-11 - AS, in like manner as He left -

3. Suddenly, as a theif in the night (unannounced, unpredicted) - 1 Thess. 5:1-3

4. 'Shout' - voice of the Archangel, Trump, 1 Thess. 4:16-17;

5. With angels -- 2 Thess. 1:7

C. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN HE COMES?

1. The END - 1 Cor. 15:23-26

a. the end of PROBATION -- 2 Pet. 3:9

b. The end of the WORLD - 2 Pet. 3:7-10

c. The end of TIME (i.e., the LAST day) - John 6:39-40, 44

1. is NOT the beginning of 1000 years, or another era of time…

d. The END of the KINGDOM - will be delivered back to the Father, 1 Cor. 15:24

2. The Resurrection - John 5:28-29

a. ALL the dead, cp. Acts 25:

b. Dead IN Christ -- 1 Thess. 4:16

c. death is destroyed, is no more -- 1 Cor. 15:

c. Living - CHANGED -- 1 Cor. 15:50-55

3. JUDGMENT - at the 'last day' -- John 12:48

a. Acts 17:30-31, it will be a righteous judgment by Christ

b. Mtt. 25:31-46, separation of SHEEP and goats --

c. Mtt. 7:21 -- separation of 'unlawful'…

4. Wicked separated and punished ….

a. Mtt. 25:41, 46, 'into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels…'

b. 2 Thess. 1:7-9, - 'know not God and obey not the gospel…'

CONCLUSION

1. Peter's question - see these things… how then should we live?

2 Pet. 3:10-13

2. Life to be lived in anticipation of such coming and judgment…

3. Life to be LIVED -- not foolish waiting and counting of days…

4. Are you prepared for the judgment -- have you obeyed the gospel?
